Message Ø Deep cryogenic tempering is a dry process where parts are slowly cooled to –300 degrees Fahrenheit, then held in the tank for 18-30 hours.

Ø In some cases, doubles the life in cutting tools.

Ø On the same premise as freezing water, cryogenics can restructure certain materials, giving a less random, more tightly knit molecular matrix.

Ø In turn, it is more difficult to cause slippage in the material used.

Ø Everything from nylon to titanium can be cryogenically treated.

Ø When frictional losses are reduced, measured power will increase.

Ø Relieves the stress in applications such as frames and swing arms, thus reducing the chances of stress cracks.

Ø After “cryo” treating, aluminum castings machine better and become smoother.

Ø Keeps cylinders more round, preventing blow-by and increases the life of spring steel (valve springs and piston rings).

Cryogenics is a process where you basically deep-freeze parts. There are two types – shallow and deep. The shallow method freezes parts at about –120º F. Deep cryogenic treatment freezes at temps of –300º F. The shallow method is ok for parts like pushrods and rocker arms but for the bigger parts deep is the only way to go. The best method of deep cryogenics will actually thermally cycle the parts over a period of time. Thermal cycling enhances the component by converting the soft grain structure (Austenite) into a stronger, more stable grain structure (Martensite). Because the entire part is subject to the temperature variations, the strengthening is throughout the entire part rather than just surface areas. The process does not make the part more brittle or change any dimensions. This only needs to be done once and the effects are permanent.

This adds 50-400% more strength to metal parts. Scientifically tested by major universities too! NASA actually discovered the process. Another of many benefits of the space program
